What it takes to drive a school bus

Looking Backward...........

Well First of all .......

I guess you have to be a person looking for part time work with a little better pay and a person who likes to drive large vehicles and enjoys a challenge.  Since the job is not year round and you are off for snow days, inservice and holidays, it is really a job best suited for retired persons and stay at home mother's who need to take their kids to work. If you are looking for health insurance and 401k's and such you should check with school systems that run their own buses as opposed to independent contractors. I suggest that you also read on..........
All require the following :
Early mornings, most routes begin 6:30 -7 AM
At least a C.D.L. (Commercial Drivers License) with a PS endorsement ( Passenger and School Bus)
5 year clean driving record
F.B.I. background check  NO FELONS ALLOWED
Air brake buses require a Class B license with air brake endorsement
Yearly physical and attend bus safety class ran by D.O.T.
LOVE KIDS AND HAVE A REAL DESIRE TO GET THEM TO AND FROM THEIR EDUCATION AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE.
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT.

The Benefits:
Alot of people may qualify for this job but fewer can really handle it.

If you have the license requirements but no real love of kids or desire for their education then stick to delivering beer or cokes. You will be happier and make more money too. (experience) If you have the time, desire and courage to drive a school bus for one school year.
I can almost guarantee you that by the end of that 180 days you will find yourself changed in some way or another or you will be just one brave person who survived a year and learned something about yourself like you just aren't a school bus driver or you will be back year after year swearing each spring this is your last . These are purely my own opinions based on my years of experience.
