It is a bitter cold winter day. We are on our way home, there are 35 children still
on the bus. We have a flat tire on the right front side of bus. The driver has steered the bus off onto the shoulder of the
road. Has quitened the children and called the contractor about the situation. He is sending another bus.
1. What is the first thing you should do?
Remain seated, get quite & quiten others, listen
for drivers instructions.
2. Should we evacuate the bus in this situation?
Why or Why not?
No, we are out of the road and in plain view of passing traffic. Our
flashers are also on alerting other drivers there is a problem.
3. Who makes that decision? Why?
Driver, they are aware of all regulations and procedures to follow.
4. If we do evacuate, which exit or exits should we use?
If we did evacuate, we would use the front door in an orderly
fashion.
5. If you do evacuate where should you go?
100 feet away from the bus and the shoulder of the road.
6. If you get off the bus what should you do?
a. take all belongings, as you may be taking another bus.
b. go straight to designated area
c. stay in designated area and await further instructions
d. count all students including yourself
7. What should you NOT DO in this situation?
a. Do not return to bus until told by driver to do
so.
b. Do not leave designated area for any reason.
