Learn about being safe!

FOR WAYS TO CONTACT ME  JUST CLICK THE BUS!

On the next page, I'll include a new bus scenario each month. This is done in order to inform parents and children as well about actual bus safety. Many of us are far too busy or far too young to really take the time to stop and think for a minute about what we actually live through everyday. Life these days is a real challenge, but it becomes so routine that we sometimes forget just how fragile it can be. It takes some huge tragedy  to get our attention and help us refocus. Soon enough 911, Columbine, Campbell County High and even Central High School all just fade into the past. It is how we survive just like when we lose a loved one, its devasting at first then  we learn to live with it. Well my scenario's are none so drastic at least not yet. I think it best to start with the basics first. They are just the everyday occurances that we have all forgotten to pay any attention to but could possibly become a real problem if we are not informed, aware and prepared.
Always remember  this as well, children do not know all you do and a common thing for you could be very scary to them. Such as out of gas on the side of a busy road, battery trouble, strange noises under the hood, all of these can be very scary  to a young child who has never had such an experience. Please if the scenario seems silly to you then I suggest  you look at it from your child's perspective for a moment.
I can talk until I am blue, but can't do anything near what you as parents can do. Be assured once again that a school bus is the safest vehicle in the United States short of a tank and are built with the same specs. We believe in protecting our youth and that will never change. Regulations are strong and safety as well. Basically nothing short of a train can hurt your child  and we are trained constantly about trains so the next time you get annoyed that we stop at the tracks when there is no train remember that we are protecting your kids, our youth.
I will dare to dare you now to take my challenge once per month .
I will give you a common scenario  and the  D.O.T. answer as well. This will help you to teach your child what may be expected of them during such a scenario as well as inform you as to why the driver takes the actions and precautions that they do as well.   If I choose to elaborate you will know so. I only have about 50 at the moment  so if you think of new ones then feel free to send them as well. EDUCATE ME PLEASE!

TRY THIS SOMETIME. LOL!

Here I will try to add some ideas about what to do.

Many of us over the years have tried to make bus safety a part of the school curriculm, to get them to allow a contractor to speak about bus safety at orienatation, and to allow bus drills once a month at the schools. However we have yet to be successful. So our only option at this time is to use the few minutes we have on the bus with your child everyday  to talk to them about bus safety which really isn't easy when you are driving down the road with 40 to 60 children back there talking and acting silly and you are stopping every few minutes, and you also don't get to inform the other children who only ride on field trips or such either, but we keep trying and I am hopeful that this site will help increase the number of youth and parents as well who learn about bus safety, and perhaps also gain more parental support to help us get this into our schools.

Here I will add some instruction on how to do that .

Attend your P.T.O. meetings, talk with your principles, call your school board, superintedants and politicians.
If you believe in our cause, show whatever support you can and thank you from all of us. I have added a guestbook where you can sign and share your thoughts and ideas with myself and others as well. If you would like to leave your comments or support please sign my guestbook. I am working on adding a Forum as well to offer a place where we can gather and discuss our issues and find solutions.  If you are interested in joining a Forum then please let me know.

In this area I will add any links that might be helpful or will add any of my own opinions as well.

You can email your teachers, principles, adminstrators in our system  from this web site www.knoxschools.org you can also find lots of other information including the bus routes from this site. It's easy you can just click on the recommend this site below and follow directions.  I have also added another link here that has lots of good safety information.

Check out this new link to the DANGER ZONE. It is a video game for kids that teaches them about entering and exiting the bus, and its fun. Try it out.  Learning can be fun too and as long as they get the information then that's most improtant.
