On the next page, I'll include a new bus scenario each month. This is done in order to inform parents
and children as well about actual bus safety. Many of us are far too busy or far too young to really take the time to stop
and think for a minute about what we actually live through everyday. Life these days is a real challenge,
but it becomes so routine that we sometimes forget just how fragile it can be. It takes some huge tragedy to get our
attention and help us refocus. Soon enough 911, Columbine, Campbell County High and even Central High School
all just fade into the past. It is how we survive just like when we lose a loved one, its devasting at first then we
learn to live with it. Well my scenario's are none so drastic at least not yet. I think it best to start with
the basics first. They are just the everyday occurances that we have all forgotten to pay any attention to but could
possibly become a real problem if we are not informed, aware and prepared.
Always remember this as well, children do not know all you do and a common thing for you could
be very scary to them. Such as out of gas on the side of a busy road, battery trouble, strange noises under the hood,
all of these can be very scary to a young child who has never had such an experience. Please if the scenario seems silly
to you then I suggest you look at it from your child's perspective for a moment.
I can talk until I am blue, but can't do anything near what you as parents can do. Be assured once
again that a school bus is the safest vehicle in the United States short of a tank and are built with the same specs. We believe in protecting our youth and that will never change. Regulations are strong and safety as well. Basically
nothing short of a train can hurt your child and we are trained constantly about trains so the next time you get
annoyed that we stop at the tracks when there is no train remember that we are protecting your kids, our youth.
I will dare to dare you now to take my challenge once per month .
I will give you a common scenario and the D.O.T. answer as well. This will help you to teach your child
what may be expected of them during such a scenario as well as inform you as to why the driver takes the actions and
precautions that they do as well. If I choose to elaborate you will know so. I only have about 50 at the moment
so if you think of new ones then feel free to send them as well. EDUCATE ME PLEASE!
